The New York Yankees faced a must-win situation in Game 4 of the World Series, down 3-0 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They came through with a decisive 11-4 victory, keeping their hopes alive for an improbable comeback. The game marked a turning point, as the Yankees aimed to become only the second team in MLB history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series.

Freddie Freeman kicked off the scoring for the Dodgers with a two-run homer in the first inning. However, the Yankees quickly countered when Alex Verdugo drove in a run on a fielder's choice, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The defining moment came in the second inning when Anthony Volpe launched a grand slam, giving the Yankees a 5-2 lead, their first advantage since Game 1.

While the Dodgers fought back, adding two runs in the fifth with small ball tactics, the Yankees missed a chance to extend their lead when they loaded the bases but failed to score. Austin Wells provided some relief with a solo home run in the sixth, further buoying the Yankees' momentum.

The Dodgers made a push in the seventh inning, bringing the tying run to the plate. Yet, the Yankees' bullpen stood firm, retiring star hitters Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freeman, maintaining their lead. In the eighth, the Yankees exploded for five runs, with Volpe scoring on a fielder’s choice and Gleyber Torres hitting a three-run homer to stretch the lead to 10-4.

Luis Gil pitched four solid innings, but it was the bullpen that truly shined, delivering five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters. This performance was crucial as the Yankees sought to make history, attempting to replicate the 2004 Boston Red Sox's remarkable comeback against them in the ALCS.

As they head back to the Bronx for Game 5, the Yankees will look to build on their momentum. With reigning Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole on the mound, they hope to continue their resurgence against Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty. If successful, it would mark the first time in World Series history that a series has extended to Game 6 after one team held a 3-0 lead, adding even more pressure to the upcoming contest.
