A truck rammed into a bus stop near Tel Aviv on Sunday, injuring at least 35 people and resulting in one fatality. Local authorities are treating the incident as a suspected terror attack. The collision occurred in Ramat Hasharon, in the Glilot area, as commuters returned from a week-long holiday.
The truck struck a bus that was discharging passengers, leaving some victims trapped under the vehicle. Civilians on the scene acted quickly, shooting the driver, who allegedly exited the truck armed with a knife. The driver was identified as a resident of the Israeli-Arab town of Qalansawe.
The Ichilov Medical Center reported that one of the injured later died, with many of the victims being elderly retirees heading to a museum. At least one person sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack.
The location of the incident is significant, as it is near an army base and the headquarters of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, both of which have been previously targeted by missile strikes from Hezbollah. This context adds to the heightened security concerns in the region.
In related news, Iran's supreme leader addressed recent Israeli military actions, emphasizing a careful approach to retaliation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that recent airstrikes on Iranian military targets effectively diminished Iran's defense capabilities.
Meanwhile, both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad terrorist group praised the attack but stopped short of claiming responsibility.
