Political journalist Ryan Lizza has accused his ex-fiancée, acclaimed writer Olivia Nuzzi, of “catastrophically reckless behavior” stemming from a year-long affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which he claims led to their breakup this summer. These allegations emerged in recent court filings amid an ongoing dispute between the two journalists.

In a filing with Washington, DC's Superior Court, Lizza described Kennedy as a manipulator, stating that he expressed a desire to “possess,” “control,” and “impregnate” Nuzzi. Lizza, who serves as Politico's chief Washington correspondent, claimed Nuzzi revealed details of her relationship with Kennedy after their engagement ended in August.

The contentious split has raised ethical questions regarding their professional responsibilities, particularly in relation to their coverage of the presidential election and Kennedy's candidacy. Lizza's court statements portray Kennedy as someone who led Nuzzi into a “disturbing relationship,” impacting both journalists' work.

Lizza has denied allegations made by Nuzzi, including stalking and hacking. He asserted that his knowledge of her affair came directly from her. While Nuzzi previously secured a protective order against Lizza, a recent court hearing did not address the journalists' accusations but showcased their contentious dynamic.

In court filings, Lizza expressed his devastation over discovering Nuzzi's affair, claiming it ended their engagement. He noted that Nuzzi had described her relationship with Kennedy as “toxic” and “indefensible,” acknowledging the significant power imbalance between them.

Lizza also indicated that he had advised Nuzzi to remove reporting material related to her work with Kennedy, suggesting that their personal issues had previously hindered professional projects, including a joint book deal. He referenced a past affair that had also disrupted their plans.
