Millions Left Powerless in Florida After Hurricane Milton's Devastation

Florida is reeling after Hurricane Milton struck on Wednesday, leaving over 3 million residents without power. The storm, which made landfall as a Category 3 near Siesta Key, south of Tampa Bay, brought with it destructive winds, heavy flooding, and tornados that have led to multiple fatalities.

With maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, Milton traveled east-northeast across the state and is now moving into the Atlantic, as reported by the National Hurricane Center. The hurricane not only caused widespread power outages but also spawned several tornados; the National Weather Service has confirmed five of the seven reports received.

Tragically, at least two fatalities have been reported in St. Lucie County due to a tornado that struck the Spanish Lakes Country Club in Fort Pierce around 4:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Governor Ron DeSantis has stated that a total of 19 tornado touchdowns have been confirmed.

As recovery efforts begin, the impact of Hurricane Milton is felt across the state, with many communities grappling with the aftermath of this powerful storm.
