In a tragic incident early Friday morning, gunfire erupted in Orlando, Florida, resulting in two fatalities and injuring at least eight others. Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith provided updates during a press briefing, confirming that among the victims, six individuals have been transported to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The suspected shooter, identified as 17-year-old Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, has been taken into custody. Chief Smith revealed that Edgar has a prior arrest for grand theft in 2023. The victims of the shooting range in age from 19 to 39.
The chaos began around 1:07 a.m. at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue, with police receiving multiple reports of gunfire shortly thereafter. Chief Smith emphasized that responding officers did not discharge their weapons during the incident.
During the briefing, Smith shared video footage depicting the scene, showing terrified crowds fleeing in panic and an officer successfully subduing the suspect. Body camera footage was also presented, capturing the moment the officer tackled Edgar to the ground.
