Olivia Nuzzi has parted ways with New York magazine just over a month after being placed on leave due to the revelation of a personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The magazine announced her departure on Monday, noting that an independent review found no inaccuracies or bias in her reporting on the 2024 campaign, which included a detailed profile of Kennedy. Despite the positive findings, both Nuzzi and the magazine agreed that separating was the best course of action.
In their statement, New York magazine praised Nuzzi’s talent and expressed pride in having published her work for nearly eight years as their Washington Correspondent. They acknowledged her contributions to the publication while wishing her well in her future endeavors. Nuzzi’s attorney also released a statement expressing gratitude for the findings of the investigations, which confirmed the soundness of her reporting.
Nuzzi’s departure comes in the wake of her admission to the magazine about the personal relationship, which was deemed a violation of their standards regarding conflicts of interest. In a previous statement, she clarified that the relationship never became physical and expressed regret for not disclosing it sooner, acknowledging that this oversight could create the appearance of impropriety.
The relationship with Kennedy was revealed after he suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed Donald Trump in August. A spokesperson for Kennedy mentioned that he had only met Nuzzi once during an interview, which they described as a "hit piece." As Nuzzi moves on from New York magazine, the focus now shifts to her next career steps following a significant chapter in her journalism journey.
