New York Jets Fire Coach Robert Saleh After Slow Start
The New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh following a disappointing 2-3 start to the 2024 season, as announced by owner Woody Johnson. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over as interim head coach.
Johnson thanked Saleh for his efforts over the past three and a half years but emphasized that the team was not meeting expectations. This marks the first mid-season coaching change for Johnson in his 25-year tenure.
Saleh, who joined the Jets in 2021, finished with a 20-36 record. His dismissal follows a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, making him the third NFL coach to be fired after a game overseas.
The Jets entered the season with high hopes, particularly with quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning from an Achilles injury. However, offensive struggles and quarterback instability have plagued the team throughout Saleh’s tenure, which included starting six different quarterbacks. As Ulbrich steps in, the Jets aim to turn their season around.
