A 49-year-old man, Vem Miller, was arrested near Donald Trump's rally in Coachella, California, for illegal possession of a shotgun and a loaded handgun. Miller was stopped at a security checkpoint where deputies found the firearms and a high-capacity magazine in his black SUV.
He was taken into custody without incident and charged with misdemeanors related to weapons possession, later released on $5,000 bail. Authorities confirmed that Trump was not in danger, and the incident did not affect security operations for the rally.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco described Miller as a "lunatic" and mentioned that his officers may have prevented a potential threat. However, a federal official indicated there was no evidence of an assassination attempt linked to Miller. Multiple fake passports, driving licenses, and a homemade license plate were found in his vehicle, raising concerns about his intentions.
The U.S. Secret Service, FBI, and local authorities are continuing their investigation. This incident highlights the heightened security measures surrounding Trump following previous alleged assassination attempts.
