Macy's has announced plans to close 66 stores across nearly two dozen states in the coming months as part of its "Bold New Chapter" strategy.
This initiative aims to shutter approximately 150 underperforming locations over three years while investing in 350 "go-forward" stores through fiscal 2026.

Arizona:
Mesa: Superstition Springs Center
California:

These closures are scheduled to occur over the next 8 to 12 weeks, following the holiday season. Discount sales have already begun at the affected locations.
Macy's CEO, Tony Spring, stated that the decision to close these stores is part of a broader effort to focus resources on more profitable locations and enhance customer experiences.

The retail industry has been facing significant challenges, with predictions indicating that up to 45,000 brick-and-mortar stores could close in the next five years.
Despite these closures, Macy's plans to continue operating approximately 350 stores and invest in its Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury portfolios, with the latter set to open around 30 new locations.
Additionally, other retailers like Kohl's have announced plans to close underperforming stores in the near future.
