Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson required immediate surgery for a tibia fracture, according to head coach Dan Campbell. However, the team’s PR later clarified that it is not a compound fracture.
Hutchinson suffered the injury to his left leg while making a 6-yard sack on Dak Prescott during the third quarter, with 11:43 remaining in the game. Realizing the severity of his injury, medical personnel quickly attended to him, placing his leg in an air cast before transporting him via cart directly to the ambulance rather than to the X-ray room, indicating the urgency of the situation.
“It’s tough to see Hutch go down,” Campbell said. “He’s in good hands and getting the care he needs. It’s hard to lose a player of his caliber, and he’ll be out for a while. We’ll know more after further evaluations, but our thoughts are with him.”
Prior to his injury, Hutchinson had an impactful game, recording three tackles, a sack, and three quarterback hits, bringing his season total to 7.5 sacks. Despite the loss of their star defender, the Lions secured a decisive 47-9 victory against the Cowboys. Fox even opted not to show a replay of Hutchinson's injury, highlighting its severity.
