Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise cameo on the final episode of "Saturday Night Live" before the election, joining Maya Rudolph, who is known for her impersonation of Harris. The appearance was a lighthearted segment that served as the cold open, poking fun at Donald Trump’s recent rally where he wore a sanitation vest, as well as some of Joe Biden's well-known gaffes.

In the skit, Rudolph’s version of Harris expressed a desire to talk to someone who shares her unique experiences as a Black, South Asian woman running for president. This setup led to the real Harris making her entrance, much to the audience's delight. With a smile, she responded to Rudolph, “You and me both, sister,” and offered a humorous jab at Trump, reminding Rudolph that she could "open doors" in ways Trump could not.

The skit also featured playful exchanges about Harris's distinctive laugh. When Rudolph teased her about it, Harris questioned, “I don’t really laugh like that, do I?” Rudolph responded with a teasing, “A little bit,” showcasing the chemistry between the two. This back-and-forth added a comedic touch to the segment.

The two then engaged in a series of rhymes revolving around Harris's name, highlighting their commitment to the "promise of America." Lines included playful quips like “And end the drama-la” and “Get back in our pajama-las,” reflecting the light-hearted nature of the skit and their shared enthusiasm for voting.

Towards the end of the segment, they joked about voter registration, with Harris asking Rudolph if she was registered in Pennsylvania. Rudolph replied negatively, prompting Harris to quip, “Well, it was worth a shot.” The segment wrapped up with the show's classic sign-off, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

The Trump campaign reacted to Harris's appearance by criticizing her for lacking substantive contributions to the American public. Spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed her cameo as a “warped fantasy” and claimed it reflected her elitist connections while reiterating that Trump would address what they termed her “destructive policies.” Additionally, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine made a guest appearance in the episode, demonstrating the show's tradition of featuring political figures. Over the years, many politicians have appeared on "SNL," often facing humorous scrutiny from the show.
