Israel has targeted a Hezbollah naval base in Beirut, launching airstrikes as tensions escalate in the region. The Israeli military reported that the strikes were conducted overnight, coinciding with Iran’s efforts to garner support from Gulf Arab nations in anticipation of a potential Israeli retaliation.
The Hezbollah naval base included a training center, military speedboats intended for attacks on Israeli vessels, and areas for conducting experiments. In addition to the naval base, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck various Hezbollah facilities, including weapons storage sites, command centers, and other militant targets, some of which were situated underground.
To reduce the risk of civilian casualties, the IDF emphasized its commitment to precautionary measures. They issued advanced warnings to residents in the affected areas before launching the strikes, demonstrating an effort to mitigate harm to non-combatants amid the ongoing conflict.
These military actions come in response to heightened tensions following Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed that neighboring countries assured Iran they would not allow their territories to be used for attacks against it, framing this cooperation as a sign of regional solidarity among friendly nations.
