Days after Gursimran Kaur, a 19-year-old Indian-origin woman, was found dead in a walk-in oven at a Walmart bakery in Halifax, Canada, questions have arisen regarding the circumstances of her death. An employee has suggested that Kaur may have been thrown into the oven by another person. Kaur was discovered charred to death by her mother on October 19, raising concerns among coworkers about the possibility of foul play.
The Halifax Regional Police have stated that the investigation into Kaur’s death is still ongoing, and the "cause and manner" have yet to be confirmed. They emphasized that the investigation is complex and involves multiple agencies, which may prolong the process of reaching a conclusion.
Walmart employees have shared their thoughts, indicating that Kaur might have been locked inside the oven. In a TikTok video, co-worker Chris Breezie demonstrated how the oven operates, noting that it can only be turned on from the outside and that the door handle is difficult to open. Breezie pointed out that an emergency latch exists inside the oven, which raises questions about how someone could become trapped.
Another employee, Mary, reinforced Breezie's observations, stating that the oven door is designed not to close on its own and requires a deliberate action to latch it. As the investigation continues, a stop-work order has been issued for the bakery and one piece of equipment at the Walmart store. In response to the tragedy, Walmart Canada expressed their heartbreak and extended condolences to Kaur’s family.
