Horror Sequel Sparks Chaos in Theaters: 'Terrifier 3' Leads to Walkouts and Vomiting
The latest horror installment, Terrifier 3, has created quite the stir in theaters, leading to mass walkouts and even instances of audience members getting sick. After its premiere in the US and UK, viewers reported feeling "traumatized" by the film’s extreme violence and graphic gore.
Following in the footsteps of Terrifier 2, which became a viral sensation in 2022 and resulted in numerous audience members vomiting, the third film appears to be no different. During a recent screening, 11 people walked out, with nine leaving during the particularly intense opening sequence.
Fans expressed their mixed reactions, with one stating, “It was definitely a lot,” while another said, “That s**t was scary but good—I’m a little traumatized.” A third audience member remarked on the film’s depravity, emphasizing how many walked out.
Terrifier 2 achieved surprising box office success, grossing over $15 million on a mere $250,000 budget. However, director Damien Leone faced challenges in securing funding for the sequel, as major studios were wary of its extreme content. “I knew they weren’t going to let me make this movie based on the first five pages,” Leone revealed. He anticipated that the film’s opening scene would be so shocking that a mainstream studio would never approve it.
Leone felt compelled to produce the film independently, asserting that it was "too insane" for traditional Hollywood. He promised that the first five minutes would be particularly controversial, but it’s just a taste of what’s to come.
The Terrifier franchise follows Art the Clown, a demonic killer wreaking havoc in Miles County, New York. In this third installment, Art embarks on a murderous spree during the Christmas season. The production was so intense that actor David Howard Thornton, who portrays Art, almost vomited during filming due to a particularly horrific scene.
The original Terrifier, made on a minuscule budget of $60,000, gained notoriety after a shocking death scene involving a hacksaw went viral upon its release in 2016. As Terrifier 3 rolls out to more theaters, audiences brace themselves for what is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
