Democratic Strategist Challenges Subpoena from Republican House Judiciary Chair
Mike Nellis, CEO of Authentic Campaigns and a Democratic strategist involved in organizing a “White Dudes for Harris” call, is pushing back against a subpoena issued by Republican House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Nellis took to X late Friday to announce his objections, calling the subpoena “invalid, unconstitutional, and unenforceable.”
In his post, Nellis argued that the subpoena lacks a legitimate legislative purpose. It demands that he testify and provide a sworn affidavit affirming that Authentic Campaigns, a company with ties to the daughter of the New York judge overseeing former President Trump’s hush money case, had no contact with Judge Juan Merchan.
Nellis also shared a letter from his legal team addressed to Jordan, which asserts that Authentic Campaigns’ work is unrelated to Trump’s legal matters in New York. The letter dismisses Jordan’s insinuations that the company might have influenced the case or benefited from it as “baseless” and “dangerous.”
The Hill has reached out to Jordan’s office and the House Judiciary Committee for comment.
