In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, Tampa Bay residents are facing long lines and chaos at gas stations due to widespread pump shutdowns. Security guard Tootie Jones at a local Wawa reported fights breaking out over fuel access, including a disturbing incident where one woman hit another with her car. The Pasco Sheriff’s Office has urged patience, noting they’ve received 177 calls about altercations at gas stations. Sheriff Chris Nocco emphasized the strain on their limited resources, stating, "Sometimes, it feels like babysitting to maintain order."
Despite the unrest, there’s hope for improvement as Port Tampa Bay has restored power and reopened, with over ten oil tankers en route to Florida. Industry expert Andrew Lipow noted the swift recovery efforts following the storm. "For a major hurricane, this is pretty good," he said. Jones echoed the call for calm, reminding residents that everyone will eventually get gas.
