Former NY Governor David Paterson and Stepson Victims of Gang Assault on Upper East Side: NYPD Seeks 5 Suspects

Former NY Governor David Paterson

The NYPD is on the lookout for five individuals involved in a gang assault against former New York Governor David Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson, Anthony Sliwa, on the Upper East Side Friday night.

The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. in front of 1871 2nd Avenue, where Paterson and Sliwa were walking near their home. According to a spokesperson for Paterson, the attack followed a previous encounter between Sliwa and the assailants.

After a verbal dispute, the suspects assaulted both victims, striking them in the face and body before fleeing south on 2nd Avenue. Although they suffered injuries, both Paterson and Sliwa managed to fend off their attackers and were later taken to Cornell Hospital for evaluation. Paterson sustained injuries to his face and head, while Sliwa suffered facial injuries; both are reported to be in stable condition.

Sliwa is the son of former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Descriptions of the suspects released by the police are as follows:

1. A female with a dark complexion and purple braids, last seen wearing light-colored pants, a dark sweater, and purple-and-black sneakers.

2. A male with a dark complexion, wearing a blue t-shirt, black hoodie, a New York Yankees hat, light-colored jeans, and light sneakers.

3. A male with a light complexion, dressed in a red t-shirt, light pants, light slippers, and a black sweater tied around his waist.

4. A male with a medium complexion, seen in a gray graphic t-shirt, black pants, and light-colored shoes.

5. A male with a dark complexion, wearing a graphic t-shirt, a black sweatshirt, black pants, and light sneakers.
