Dolly Parton Pledges $1 Million for Hurricane Helene Recovery

Music legend Dolly Parton has announced a personal donation of $1 million to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. Speaking at an event in Tennessee, the 78-year-old stated that the funds would come directly from her own bank account.

Additionally, her local ventures, including the Dollywood amusement park, will match this amount, contributing to the Mountain Ways Foundation, which assists those affected by the storm's devastation.

Parton expressed her heartbreak over the tragedy, which has claimed at least 225 lives and caused significant damage across several states, including North Carolina and Tennessee. "This is my home," she said, emphasizing her desire to give back to her community.

At the press conference, Parton also sang a poignant rendition of “Helene, Helene,” inspired by her hit "Jolene." Her heartfelt message to victims was one of solidarity and hope, assuring them, "We love you, and we're going to do our part."

In a related announcement, Walmart revealed it would increase its recovery funding to $10 million, with its CEO praising Parton as "a true American legend." This isn't the first time Parton has stepped up; she previously donated to wildfire recovery in Tennessee and supported COVID-19 vaccine development.
