Aidan Hutchinson's impressive 2024 season has come to an abrupt end. The Detroit Lions pass rusher underwent surgery on Sunday night to repair a broken tibia, and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport confirmed Monday that he is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Fortunately, Hutchinson is anticipated to make a full recovery in time for the 2025 campaign.

The injury occurred during Detroit's dominant victory over the Dallas Cowboys, prompting Hutchinson to remain in Dallas for immediate surgical intervention. However, his return to the field will not be swift.

While Hutchinson’s season-ending status was somewhat anticipated, it still represents a significant setback for the Lions, who relied heavily on his energy and performance on defense. Entering Week 6, he led the NFL with 6.5 sacks despite having played only four games due to a bye week. After a standout Pro Bowl season, the 24-year-old finishes the year with 7.5 sacks and 19 tackles, positioning him as one of the league's elite pass rushers.

Now, the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft will be sidelined as the Lions aim to defend their NFC North title. Filling the void left by Hutchinson won’t be easy, highlighting the team's limited depth in pass-rushing. While Alim McNeill has stood out, recording two sacks against the Cowboys, no other player on the roster has more than 1.5 sacks this season. With Hutchinson out, Levi Onwuzurike, Josh Pascal, and rookie Isaac Ukwu will need to elevate their game to help Detroit maintain its defensive strength.
