Drake Hogestyn, beloved for his role as John Black on Days of Our Lives for 38 years, has passed away at 70, just one day before his birthday. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he faced his illness with remarkable strength until his peaceful passing on September 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.


His family shared their sorrow on social media, highlighting his dedication to family and his passion for acting. "He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor," they wrote. Days of Our Lives executive producer Ken Corday expressed the profound loss, stating, "His impact on our show will forever remain unmatched."


Hogestyn began his career in the 1980s after an injury ended his baseball aspirations. He joined Days of Our Lives in 1986, captivating fans, especially through his iconic pairing with Deidre Hall's Marlena Evans, winning a Soap Opera Digest Award in 2005.


He is remembered fondly by co-stars, including Alison Sweeney and Kristian Alfonso, who praised his generosity and kindness. Christopher Sean, who played his on-screen son, called him a "true hero." Hogestyn leaves behind his wife, Victoria, and their four children, along with seven grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
