The Buffaloes achieved a pivotal milestone Saturday night, clinching their sixth win of the season with a 34-23 victory over Cincinnati. This win not only secures bowl eligibility for Colorado for the first time since 2020 but also establishes them as a contender in the Big 12 as the season unfolds.
Shedeur Sanders had a standout performance, breaking a school record by completing his first 15 passes of the game. He finished with 323 passing yards and three total touchdowns, despite dealing with the flu earlier in the week. His connection with Travis Hunter was particularly impressive, with the two linking up nine times for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Head coach Deion Sanders expressed pride in the team's accomplishment but emphasized that this victory is just a stepping stone toward greater goals. He noted, “This is a tremendous hurdle, and we’re excited, but that’s not the end goal for us. It’s just the beginning,” highlighting the Buffaloes' ambitions beyond simply reaching a bowl game.
The Buffaloes displayed a balanced offensive attack, rushing for over 100 yards, with Isaiah Augustave leading the way with 93 of the team’s 123 rushing yards. Colorado built an early lead by scoring on five of their first six drives, managing to withstand a late rally from Cincinnati.
As the Buffaloes look forward to a bye week before facing Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State, Coach Sanders reiterated the focus on one game at a time. He also expressed a desire to keep the team out of the rankings for now, preferring to stay under the radar. In a heartwarming gesture, he plans to ensure that longtime superfan Peggy Coppom, who is 99, can attend a bowl game to celebrate her upcoming 100th birthday.
