Kansas has been named the top team in the 2024-25 preseason AP Top 25 men's college basketball poll, securing 30 out of 60 first-place votes. This marks the Jayhawks' second consecutive year at No. 1, following a season where they fell short of expectations with a 23-win record and an early exit from the NCAA Tournament.
Alabama follows closely in the rankings at No. 2, receiving 14 first-place votes, while defending champion UConn is at No. 3 with 11 first-place votes. Houston, coming in at No. 4, garnered four first-place votes, and Gonzaga rounds out the top six with one vote.
Interestingly, Iowa State, ranked fifth, is the only team in the top five without a first-place vote.
This year marks the fifth time Kansas has claimed the preseason No. 1 spot under head coach Bill Self, who has led the program for over two decades. As the season approaches, fans will be eager to see if the Jayhawks can live up to their ranking and avoid the pitfalls of last season.
